Jason Pickering's Silver Award-winning MicRogue was an interesting roguelike with a focus on careful positioning. His next game Misspell stays within the roguelike genre, but instead shifts to focus on careful use of powerful magic.

In Misspell, you're trapped in randomly generated labyrinth filled with ninjas, skeletons, and other enemies, moving in turn-based style towards the exit. Your main means of offense or defense are the spell book pages scattered through each level, challenging you to adapt to the different spells you may collect.

One lets you switch places with an enemy. Another heals or shields you from damage. Others freeze enemies for several turns, unleash flames in adjacent tiles, or summon lightning to destroy an enemy. You'll need to cleverly and carefully use the limited amount of spells in your inventory to survive.

Misspell is expected to release on Android and iOS, but doesn't have a release timeframe at the moment. In the meantime, you can check out a version on PC.
