The latest version of Minecraft Pocket Edition adds an awesome new feature to the mix: Xbox Live achievements.

In this guide, we’re going to tell you how to unlock them all. But first, some caveats.

You must be signed in to Xbox Live to earn achievements. You must be in survival mode, and you can’t use a world that has swapped from creative to survival mode.

You can, however, use a custom seed to start your game.

Okay, sorted? Let’s begin.

Time to Mine! - 10G
Use planks and sticks to make a pickaxe

Pickaxe

Punch a tree to get some wood. When you have a small pile, open your inventory, open the crafting menu, and make some planks - and then a crafting table.

Then place the crafting table down and tap on it to open the advanced crafting menu. From here, make some sticks and then use the sticks and planks to make a pickaxe.

Getting an Upgrade - 15G
Construct a better pickaxe

Pickaxe

Now you've got a wooden pickaxe you can go mine some cobblestone. Which is the grey stuff sticking out of mountains, or found deep under the dirt.

When you have three blocks, get the crafting table back out and turn those blocks - and two sticks - into a stone pickaxe.

Renewable Energy - 10G
Smelt wood trunks using charcoal to make more charcoal

Charcoal

First, turn 8 cobblestone blocks into a furnace, using the crafting table. Then place the furnace down and open the menu. Place a wood block in the top slot, and any type of fuel (coal, wood, grass) in the bottom to produce charcoal.

Then, place wood in the top slot again and, this time, put charcoal in the bottom.

Using charcoal to make charcoal sounds pointless, but one chunk of charcoal burns long enough to turn some wood into a handful of fuel.

Aquire Hardware - 15G
Smelt an iron ingot

Ingot

Now you know how to use the furnace, you can make something really handy. First, find some iron ore. This is found underground and looks like a cobblestone block specked with pinky-yellow dots.

Then, put that in a furnace, along with some fuel, to make an iron ingot. This stuff is very handy and used in many crafting recipes.

DIAMONDS! - 20G
Aquire diamonds with your iron tools

Diamonds

Now you have iron ingots, you can make iron tools. These aren't just better and stronger, but they can mine materials that other tools cannot. Like diamonds - if you hit diamond ore with a cobblestone pickaxe you won't get any diamond.

Go deep underground and find a stash of diamond ore and hit it with your iron pickaxe to collect some diamonds, and get an achievement.

On A Rail - 40G
Travel by minecart to a point at least 500m in a single direction from where you started

Minecart

We need to make some minecart rails and a minecart to begin with. A rail is made from six iron ingots and one stick - but you'll need a whole bunch for this achievement.

A minecart is made from five iron ingots. Place the minecart on the rail, then hop in and press and hold forward to ride. If you don't get the achievement, make your rail a little longer and try again.

Map Room - 40G
Place 9 fully explored adjacent map items into 9 item frames in a 3 by 3 square

Map

We've got a whole guide to maps here. But basically, you're going to need to harvest sugar from sugar cane to make paper. Then, when you have nine sheets, you can make an empty map.

Make nine empty maps. Then turn one into a map and fully explore the area to fill in the map. When that's done, go off the edge (see our guide to find out how to put a location marker on the map) and make another map.

When you have all the maps, make nine item frames. These are built from sticks and leather (kill a cow). Put them on a wall in a three by three grid, then use the maps on the frames to hang them up.

You'll now have a giant atlas of the surrounding area on the wall, and the achievement should pop up.

Chestful of Cobblestone - 20G
Mine 1,728 Cobblestone and place it in a chest

Cobblestone

Okay, this is a bit of a weird one. And it will take some time. But it's pretty easy. Just keep mining cobblestone until you have a ridiculous amount (in stacks of 64, that's 27 stacks of cobblestone).

Then place them all in a chest. It will fill up the entire chest. Remember to use an iron or diamond pickaxe to speed up the mining process.
