Thanks to coder Daniel Blezek and an endorsement from developer Bungie, classic Mac FPS Marathon 1 is now available on the App Store.

Marathon 1 is the first game in a three-part series which sees you exploring levels, solving puzzles, and shooting aliens in the face following an attack from unknown hostile forces.

As a security officer, you have to avoid crushing ceilings and molten pits of lava, hit switches and open doors, and shoot some more aliens in the face.

The free download features 27 levels spread over six chapters, and seven pain-dealing weapons to blast your foes with, such as a pistol, an assault rifle, a flamethrower, and a powerful rocket launcher.

Several in-app purchases are also present, allowing you to pay for HD graphics or to unlock a Master Chief mode, which gives you all weapons, infinite ammo, and invincibility.

As the games are now part of the open-source community, sequels Marathon 2: Durandal, and Marathon Infinity will seemingly - and hopefully - also make their way to Apple's magical gadget.

Go and grab it from the App Store for free.
