Majestic Nights is a recently announced, episodic role-playing game set in the neon-tinged 1980s. You play both Cardholder, an intelligence agent, and Cal, a private investigator, in an isometric adventure set against a sinister political backdrop of cover-ups and conspiracies.

While gameplay is ambiguous so far, hinting only at "isometric RPG gameplay," "fast, light mechanics," and some puzzles to fuel the narrative, there is an interesting trailer that's been released.

Made up entirely of VHS footage from the game's iconic era, the trailer really helps set the tone of the game: ominous, in a word.

Says the game's tagline, "Only thing worse than a lifetime of paranoia is finding out you were right all along." According to the developers at Epiphany Games, Majestic Nights will resemble something like Miami Vice meets The X-Files.

The first installment (Chapter Zero) will take place in Los Angeles, 1981, titled Sunset After Dark. It centers on the conspiracy that the 1969 moonlanding was a hoax.

This first chapter will release in September 2014 on iOS, Android, and PC/Mac, with each new chapter releasing about one month apart.

Find out more about future chapters, synopses, and release dates for Majestic Nights on its official website.
