PC classic set for mobile debut “in the very near future”

Replay Games and Al Lowe bring original Leisure Suit Larry to smartphones and tablets

Larry Laffer might be more familiar with tablets of the blue diamond-shaped variety, but he’ll soon be making his debut on the electronic mobile versions.

Thanks to Replay Games and original creator Al Lowe, PC classic Leisure Suit Larry and the Land of the Lounge Lizards is headed for a suite of mobile devices “in the next several weeks."

The new game revisits the 1991 remake of Larry’s original eighties adventure, which saw the loveable loser go looking for love in all the wrong places. Let’s face it: we’ve all been there.

The saucy point-and-click adventure might seem relatively mild in these more open-minded times, but back in the day it was a controversy magnet, attracting ire from press and retailers for its constant double entendres and adult tone.

Despite struggling at first, the game went on to become a critical and commercial success, spawning a number of sequels, the most recent of which – Box Office Bust – was made without Lowe’s input and earned several ‘Worst Game of 2009’ awards from critics.

The return of Larry’s most celebrated adventure, however, should see the balding wannabe lothario win over a new generation of players, even as his chat up lines fail to convince the women of his dreams.

We’ll bring you more news on formats and release dates as they emerge in the coming weeks.
