1
Barricades up

Your units aren't just used for offensive strategies, you can also use them to bolster your defences.

A horizontal line of three or more units will create a barricade, a unit with a fixed amount of health that will tank damage from enemies.

When you're facing off against many enemies or boss enemies, it might be a better idea to start the game by building your defence, before trying any attacks.

2
Planning ahead

You'll know when your units are due to move or attack, and as a result, you can start planning ahead on which units will fall into place once they move.

For example, say you have two horizontal units, followed by a four-block unit. If that four-block is due to move, whichever units behind it will replace it.

If you stack another two horizontal units right behind it, and they fall next to the ones we mentioned, it can create a four-block without any extra input from yourself. These moves will become essential as you move through the game.

Synergy

Some unit types will get buffs from one another, and of course, it's therefore best to plan and play with their strengths in mind.

The Roughpaw, for example, will be able to buff the attack stat of units around it, once you've ranked the creature up.

Nightcast, meanwhile, will synergise with other units of its type, and they'll give one another an attack buff while they're on the field in the same row.

Bulky bashers

You should already know how important it is to have larger units on the field, crafted from plus, T and L shapes, in addition to the blocks and barricades we've mentioned.

But you can add to those units even further. Barricades will simply be given more and more health as you create more, but offensive units can get massive attack buffs.

With units that take up four spaces, you can put another two units of the same kind behind them horizontally to power them up. With units that take up a single block, put two units behind them vertically.

The power buffs you can find here by using this tactic are massive and will be decisive in larger, tougher stages.
