Some games are massive. They suck up days of your time, penetrate your everyday life, and leave you constantly thinking about them even when you've put down the controller or turned off the screen.

Other games are small. Teeny-tiny little things that nibble on your spare minutes and make you smile while you're playing them.

Leaping Legend fits happily into the latter category. It's simple, addictive, and while nobody will ever write fan-fiction about it, it's still a lot of fun.

Leap day

The game is a vertical endless-platformer. You play as a knight intent on saving a princess from some villain, and while the subject matter is cringeworthy - let's have more princesses saving knights, please - there's an interesting game here nonetheless.

You're running up walls on the left and right of the screen. Tapping a button lets you jump between them, and two other buttons let you move up and down the screen. The aim is to collect coins and power-ups and avoid the circular saws and plant pots that are out to get you.

Fast reactions are the order of the day, and you'll need to weave through arrows and other falling debris if you want to get a high score. You can buy a variety of boosts at the start of your run to help you push on that little bit further and earn more coins, too.

There are also different skins to purchase that speed up your runs and give you other stat boosts. And everything is presented in chunky pixel-heavy graphics with smooth animations and the odd pop culture reference thrown in for good measure.

Over the castle

Leaping Legend isn't the sort of game you force your friends to play on pain of excommunication, but it is the sort you'll whip out on the train or bus to get a few rounds in before the drudgery of the working day kicks in.

Go in with an open mind and a desire to clamber up the leaderboards and you'll find an awful lot to like here. If you're looking for anything new, or expansive, then you're better off looking elsewhere - although you'll be missing out on a barrel-load of fun.

Leaping Legend

A brief but exciting scramble up the side of a castle, Leaping Legend doesn't have the legs to be a classic, but it's fun all the same
