I can't help but imagine Kubiko as some kind of logic-based lab experiment.

The game gives you multiple crude 3D pixel-art models, all twisted and contorted beyond recognition. Then it gives you five moves to rotate their constituent parts into position.

All of this is handled in the kind of simple, spartan, quietly tasteful way that that might make you suspect you're being taught something. Where's the cheese?

Kubiko is undoubtedly fun, though it has its faults. You're strictly limited as to your number of moves, so there's no facility for free experimentation. That's fine, but the lack of a free look facility seems like a glaring and frustrating oversight.

Some of the puzzles are just too obscure too - particularly the 'Faces' pack, each puzzle of which invariably resembles a random jumble of blocks, with no discernible landmarks.

But it could also be the ideal tonic for all those frantic endless climbers.

Jon is a consummate expert in adventure, action, and sports games. Which is just as well, as in real life he's timid, lazy, and unfit. It's amazing how these things even themselves out.
