Kingdoms is the type of digital boardgame behind which I can definitely get.

You see, most strategy games invade my head with way too many numbers and options. That's why you'll find me playing abstract strategy games like Pathogen, Rymdkapsel, and Frozen Synapse.

In my opinion, the key to a compelling abstract strategy game is visibility. Luck, randomness, and non-deterministic elements should be removed. The visuals should be sharp and clear.

This leaves just you and your opponent... locked in battle.... both trying to outsmart the other. That's what Kingdoms is all about.

It's meant for two players. This can be you and a friend, or you can go up against the computer, if you wish.

Kingdoms
Each side has its own territory and a king. The winner is the one that can take over the other's territory and, ultimately, her king.

Each player takes two turns at once. You can spend a turn placing a new tile or fortifying an existing one.

To capture territory, you have to disconnect it from your opponent's king. So, it's possible that a move can allow for a huge turnaround. Every single move requires careful consideration.

Unfortunately, there isn't a trailer to illustrate the gameplay of Kingdoms in a more succinct form.

You'll just have to wait until it surfaces on iOS later this year, I guess. You can also follow the progress of the game over on its website.
