Jungle Rumble is a charming iOS rhythm game full of beats and bananas

It's about time we had another decent rhythm game on mobile. Oh, and look at that - here comes Jungle Rumble to answer that call.

In this colourful rhythm game, you tap out rhythms on tree branches to help your troop of monkeys save their bananas from the thieving red monkeys.

In each level in Jungle Rumble, you are restricted to a simple beat. Moving your monkey around the trees and throwing coconuts at the red monkeys all has to be done in time to the beat.

If you don't stick to the beat, you won't be able to perform that move. Screw up too many times and you'll fall off the vertically scrolling level. Or, well, the red monkeys will overrun the tree.

Luckily, Jungle Rumble has a very welcoming and comprehensive tutorial. It'll teach you to move your monkeys by tapping between two branches in a 1-2-1-2 beat. To throw monkeys, meanwhile, you'll need to follow a 1-1-1-2 pattern.

If that sounds confusing, don't worry: it makes sense when playing. It's a charming little game, and it boasts plenty of challenge.

I've already failed a few levels and had to restart them. That's not a bad thing - I'm glad to see the game truly tests my rhythmic skills (or lack thereof).

If you enjoy rhythm-based games and Jungle Rumble's cartoon presentation appeals, go pick it up from the App Store right now for £2.49 / $3.99.
