Jetpack Fighter is an action game with a simple mobile twist, and it pulls it off pretty damn well. You're swiping the screen, smashing robots, and generally having a lovely old time while you do.

It looks great, it controls well, and there's a decent level of challenge here as well. There's a swagger to proceedings that makes the whole thing click impressively together.

It's not without its problems, but there's enough good stuff going on here that it's pretty easy to look past the niggles.

Jetpacks ey? What do you do?

You're controlling a spritely jetpack-sporting anime character. Swiping in any direction on the screen sends them shooting off that way.

This is your attack, and you can equip different weapons to make it more powerful. Holding on the screen, aiming, and then releasing launches your special attack. Different characters have different moves, and you'll need them to smash through certain walls.

Everything is fast and furious, and you have to swipe multiple times to take out some of the larger enemies. They telegraph their attacks with exclamation marks, and they can do a lot of damage if you're too close.

Some fire lasers, some smash the ground, others fly at you with deadly spinning rotor blades. You need to react quickly, keep out of the way, and then smash them to pieces.

There are bonuses for killing all the bots on a level, and for finishing within a time limit. Get to the end without taking a damage and you'll get some extra points.

Is it free to play?

It is, but it's pretty fair with it. I've played for a good few hours and not have to reach for my wallet or put that game down. You can get things quicker if you pay, but the game is fast and flash enough that you never feel like you're grinding.

There's a lot to do as well, with challenges, events, a campaign, and an endless mode to sink your teeth into.

It does get a little one note after you've bashed a few hours into it, but new enemies keep things fresh, and it's really designed for shorter play sessions.

But all in, there's enough here to keep you entertained for a while, and it won't cost you anything to give it a try.

Jetpack Fighter - Fighting the quite good fight

Jetpack Fighter gets the balance between its monetisation and action just right, and it's a lot of fun as well
