Infinity Merge is a brand new sliding puzzle app guaranteed to mellow you out

Fans of sliding puzzlers like 2048 will be pleased there’s a new app on the block. Developer Infinity Games released Infinity Merge this June for Android and iOS, and it promises relaxing but challenging gameplay.

When you begin Infinity Merge, you’re presented with a 5x5 board populated by colourful spotted tiles. The spots represent the tile’s numerical value, a bit like dominoes, and the idea is to slide the board left, right, up or down, merging tiles that are alike. As tiles are merged, they magically transform into a tile one numerical value up. You can merge a minimum of two tiles in a turn, but the more you merge in one go, the bigger the score. Merge three or more, and you’ll begin loading the Combo Breaker. Once the Combo Breaker’s ready, you can use it to upgrade two of your blocks at random.

Scoring big is the ultimate aim in Infinity Merge. There’s no time limit, so no frantic tapping. Just a little brain workout accompanied by some mellow marimba melodies. You’ve got to slide strategically to maximise both your score and space on the board, avoiding getting stuck in the process. If you do find you can’t go, you can reshuffle, or spend the coins you earn through play to use the Hammer. Like an angry, wayward bathroom fitter, Hammer smashes a few tiles in your way and hopefully gets you sliding again.

Once you’ve got to grips with the standard mode, you can choose to tackle the Expert mode. It’s a little trickier as the central block of the board is locked in place, acting as an obstacle.

If you fancy slipping and sliding strategically, Infinity Merge offers fun, meditative match puzzling. It’s available for free from the App Store and Google Play.
