[Update] Superheroes, tablets, and figures come together with TabApp Elite - a new way to play HeroClix
Update: The Android version of the app is now live

Comic book fans will soon be able to get their superhero tablet gaming fix in a whole new way, thanks to the upcoming release of HeroClix TabApp Elite.

The free iPad and Android tablet app allows you to bring special HeroClix collectible miniatures into a virtual game world using a customizable "ClixStation" portal.

Once your hero's in, you can choose from one of six gameplay modes and use the patented HeroClix combat dial on each figure to toggle between play styles.

The end result is a faithful HeroClix experience on your tablet, with officially-licensed DC Comics superheroes like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman all coming along for the ride.

The idea of bringing action figures into the world of tablet gaming isn't particularly new - Skylanders has been at this for some time and Disney is poised to hop into the market with its upcoming Disney Infinity line of toys and games.

Yet HeroClix stands out from both, as it draws on over a decade of gameplay, history, and rules - to say nothing of its earlier tablet foray HeroClix TabApp, which launched in the autumn of 2012.

The new Elite will support HeroClix TabApp figures, and will integrate them into its portal-based, HeroClix gameplay.

Those who prefer to play on tables as well as tablets will be happy to know that all HeroClix TabApp Elite figures are compatible with the HeroClix tabletop game.

The HeroClix TabApp Elite Starter Pack is expected on retail shelves as early as next week for $14.99 / ~£10.00. Booster packs of two figures will cost $10.00 / ~£6.50.
