Out at midnight - Hell: Fight for Gilrand hosts demonic tactical battles between PC and iPad

French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre famously wrote that "Hell is other people." But it seems that strategy game studios Slitherine and Hunted Cow disagree with that notion.

"Hell is a turn-based tactical skirmish strategy game," the two studios claim on the App Store page for Hell: Fight for Gilrand.

I'm not so sure that quotation will catch on as much as Sartre's has. But maybe the game it refers to will.

In Hell: Fight for Gilrand, you get the choice to fight for the Order of Radiance or the Demons of Hell as each army tries to conquer each battlefield.

Your part in this is commanding units. There are Paladins and Gryphon Riders on one side, Demonic Hellions and Hellhounds on the other. Each unit has a specific role so you'll need to make the most of it.

But you'll also need to carefully observe any opportunities the terrain offers for tactical advantages. Paying attention to troop morale, zone control, and the availability of support units are other concerns.

You'll learn this as you progress through the 20-level single player campaign, playing on both sides of the battle. Then there's the hotseat and online multiplayer matches to consider.

And as Hell: Fight for Gilrand is cross-platform for iPad and PC, there shouldn't be a shortage of willing opponents, hopefully.

So, do you fancy a hell romp of a strategy game for a change? If yes, consider picking up Hell: Fight for Gilrand for £9.99 / $12.99 when it arrives on the UK and US App Stores at midnight.
