Here's what you need to know about Hearthstone's Year of the Raven

It’s out with the Year of the Mammoth and in with the Year of the Raven for Hearthstone fans. Blizzard is gearing up for a new year of expansions, which also introduces new cards, an updated card rotation, and even custom tournaments.

Hearthstone Game Director Ben Brode laid out all the details in a new Fireside Chat. The Year of the Raven will introduce three sets of new cards, meaning some older cards will be cycled out. When the new expansion arrives in a few weeks, cards from Whispers of the Old Gods, One Night in Karazhan, and Mean Streets of Gadgetzan will become exclusive to Wild play. Cards from the Year of the Mammoth will still be fair game in all modes of play. Apart from these sets, three Classic cards will also move into Wild format: Ice Block, Coldlight Oracle, and Molten Giant. A new year also welcomes new ways to have fun with your friends. Players will now be able to host custom in-game tournaments within the Hearthstone client. The new feature includes matchmaking and deck-checking, and will probably go live later this year.

Lastly, a new Druid Hero is joining in on the fun. Lunara, daughter of a demi-god, is a powerful defender of wildlife and nature. You can obtain her if you win 10 Standard Ranked or Casual games once the first expansion of the year launches.

Blizzard’s still teasing out an official release date for the first Year of the Raven expansion, but you can likely expect to see it in the next few weeks or so (Journey to Un’Goro debuted in the first week of April last year). You can read all about the new year over on Hearthstone’s official site.
