We can be patient, right? RIGHT?

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite - Everything we know so far

If I said I was going to tell you EVERY teeny little detail about Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, well... I'd be lying. The fact is there's not a lot of information out at the moment bar the outer scrapings of a general idea, but here's everything we know so far.

What kind of game is it?

HP:WU is an AR (augmented reality) game along the same vein as that illustrious application Pokemon GO. In it, you'll be able to look through your phone screen and see a mix of our world and another, more magical one.

What's it about?

If the keyword 'magical' didn't give you a clue, it's all about the wizarding world of Harry Potter created by J.K. Rowling. Wizards Unite will reveal the magic all around us and allow us to all be witches and wizards as we explore our environment and, for some of us, live out our childhood dreams.

As you explore neighbourhoods, cities, and various other areas, you'll advance on your own adventure, learn/cast spells, battle opponents, discover artifacts, bump into fantastical beasts, and maybe even encounter a familiar face or ten.

Who's making it?

Niantic (Pokemon GO) has teamed up with Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment to create and all-new label, Portkey Games. This label will be wholly dedicated to creating this new world and will hopefully be successfully responsible for bringing us games full of magic, mystery, and mischief.

What platform is it coming to?

Wizards Unite will be coming to both iOS and Android, hopefully sometime next year.

When can we play it?

I'll answer that one with a shrug. As of yet there's no launch date announced and not so much as an estimate on Portkey's part or any of the inclusive parties.

When will we hear more about it?

According to the game's press release, more details will be released in 2018. For now you can sign up to their mailing list, or keep an eye on their Facebook or Twitter pages, and of course right here on Pocket Gamer, to stay up to date.

What else is there to know?

Posted in Pottermore the other day, it looks like this AR game won't be the only title set in the familiar wizarding world to come out of Portkey Games. No, there will be more in the future, but Wizards Unite is first on the list.
