Build and battle against PC players with Godsrule: War of the Mortals for iPad
Platform wars
Sega has just announced the launch of Godsrule: War of the Mortals, which looks to be a fairly ambitious online multiplayer strategy game for iPad, with a hefty city-building element to it.
The game's background lore concerns a battle between the old gods and the new gods, and in a neat parallel the game lets you - the young and hip iPad gamer (er, right?) - take on those stuffy old PC gamers.
Or you can play with them, depending on the clan you've aligned yourself with.
It's a freemium game, but with a number of noteworthy features that could warrant a closer look. It's got a lovely bold comic book art style, for one thing, and the battles themselves seem to play out in an exciting real-time fashion.
There's a choice of ranged and melee units to employ, and plenty of customisation options to help balance out a unit's strengths and weaknesses.
Check out the official launch trailer.
Winning battles helps win your side territory, which in turn snags you bonuses like extra resources and access to elite units. It's one big online land-grab, by the sounds of it.
Those of a less aggressive nature can choose to focus more on building their town with lumber mills, trade posts, and nail bars. We may have made one of those up.
Sega insists that the Godsrule: War of Mortals universe will continue to expand with new spells, units, and tactical options. The game's available now for iPad, and it can also be played through your PC's web browser.
