Earlier this year, notorious Super Mario Bros knock-off Great Giana Sisters, shed its wily plumber-cloning ways with a mostly original platformer for iPhone and DS.

Giana Sisters featured all 32 levels from its original 8-bit computer version, as well as a massive 80 brand new levels. Plus, fresh graphics and music ensured the game was a brand new adventure, and not just a port of the ancient piracy relic.

Now, the game is making its way to the iPad.

Writing on the Touch Arcade forums, developer Nico writes " Now Tomi our producer on Giana Sisters has officially revealed that yes we are working on a Giana Sisters iPad version."

"We will be adding new features, but probably not in the first version." Sounds like a super sized edition of the iPhone game to us.

Developer Tomi then appeared on German games programme Play'd, so we set our crack linguistics expert Richard Brown to translate the lengthy interview. His takeaway?

"They are developing a bespoke version of Giana Sisters for iPad, which will take advantage not just the larger screen real estate, but come with a different control method since they aren't like-for-like in terms of the way people hold the devices."

Thanks Richard, glad that German degree finally came in handy. Sort of.
