[Update] The PG Readers' iOS and Android Game of the Week - your vote needed

Zombies, heartbeats, or retro throwbacks? (And the winner is...)

[Update] The PG Readers' iOS and Android Game of the Week - your vote needed
|
Updated on August 7th, at 12:55: The votes have been counted and this week's winner is The Drowning.

The game is a free-to-play FPS with a control scheme that some might describe as 'revolutionary'. Others might describe it as 'clumsy and imprecise'. Just saying.

With the game itself set in the aftermath of an oil-based zombie apocalypse, you play a gruff-voiced man with a penchant for miserable one-liners. Pretty soon, he takes up arms against the undead.

Cue lots of shooting, punching, and grinding as you try and survive another day so you can spend some coins on making your gun reload faster.

The game is available for nothing at all [download] from the App Store, so trying it out for yourself is a reasonably pain-free experience.

Our intrepid freemium reviewer Peter Willington is currently ploughing through the game, and you can check out how he's been getting on with The Drowning here.

Every week, thousands of new games hit the iOS App Store and Google Play on Android. Trying to find the diamonds in the rough is no easy task, let us assure you.

We like to think we do a pretty good job with our news articles, mid-week round-ups, expert reviews, and comprehensive features, mind.

But, now we want to know what YOU think.

Today, we're going to ask you to pick the best game that was released on iOS and Android from the past week (from the nominations below), and then we'll announce the winner in a glamorous article next Monday.

There are loads of places to vote. Leave a comment at the bottom of this article; answer the poll on Facebook; or hire a gospel choir to go and serenade us with your choice outside the Pocket Gamer offices.

The nominations
Pivvot (iPad, iPhone) A reaction-testing maze game with twitchy elements and a brilliant soundtrack. Will probably make you pull your hair out.
Kid Tripp (iPad, iPhone) Retro platformer in which you lead a pixel-art adventurer through a series of super-tough levels. You'll die. A lot.
Knightmare Tower (iPad, iPhone) Kill monsters and bounce on the bonces of your foes as you make your way up an enormous tower in order to rescue the ten princesses trapped within.
Rymdkapsel (iPad, iPhone, Android) Minimalist strategy game in which you defend your ever-growing spaceship from waves of blocky attackers.
Lub vs Dub (iPad, iPhone) Part-super-fast endless-runner, part-same-device multiplayer platformer. Either way, it's about guiding a little character over the spikes of a heart monitor.
The Drowning (iPad, iPhone) Nice-looking FPS with some interesting controls. Shoot a lot of very dumb zombies in the face. Now.
