Frozen Synapse has been at the top of our most anticipated iPad games list for a while now.

In our preview of Mode 7's strategy shooter, we described it as "elegantly computational" with "warfare stripped to its cold, hard core".

Already a smash hit on the PC, this mixture of neon cyberpunk graphics and taut simultaneous turn-based strategy always felt like a perfect fit for the iPad's sumptuous screen.

Well, we're going to have to strike it off that aforementioned anticipated list, because Frozen Synapse just went live on the New Zealand App Store. This means that it'll be available in the UK and US from around midnight this evening.

Tweaked and rebuilt for a touchscreen device, the game involves your leading a squad of crack troops into a digital arena to fulfil a series of shades-of-grey covert operations.

On top of a deep campaign, there are five different multiplayer modes to get your teeth into; some randomly generated skirmishes; and a tutorial system in which you are walked through the various controls and tactical options you'll need to master.

Throw in cross-platform play with the PC version of the game and you're left with a tactical package that's chock-full of quality content.

Frozen Synapse will cost you £4.99 / $6.99 when it goes live on the UK and US App Stores later tonight.
