Fortnite cheats and tips - Beginner tips for new Fortnite players

What’s that? You haven’t got an invite code? Well, unfortunately, that’s tough, because Fortnite on mobile is here and it’s pretty wonderful.

Sure, it has to compete with PUBG Mobile for our time, but with that slick art style and smooth performance throughout it looks like Fortnite is rightfully taking the award away from PUBG for king of the battle royale.

If you’re just getting into Fortnite and battle royale games we’ve got some quick advice for you right here that’ll sharpen up your skills and get you ready for win that battle. Read on for everything you need to get started in Fortnite!

Fortnite

Gear up

Just like in PUBG Mobile and any other battle royale games you might’ve taken your hand to, Fortnite throws you into the world with absolutely nothing, and you’ll have to work hard in order to make sure you’re ready for the fight ahead.

Guns will obviously be the thing you want most. You won’t be very good with guns! Shotguns are useful in this game, but in general you should stick to using guns you can use at range.

You have very limited inventory space too, so you’ll want to be careful about what you’re carrying around. After all, what about bandages and other health items? You can’t just fill up on guns, though you can fill up at first and filter them out with our next tip…

Not created equal

So you’ve got a shotgun. That’s all well and good, but unless you’ve gotten very lucky indeed, you’ll likely be trading it out for something much better very soon. Weapons have ranks, and that shotgun you’ve got just might be the worst possible shotgun of its kind.

You’ll find grey weapons littered about the place everywhere, but you’ll want to upgrade to better colour ranks soon. Even if you’ve got your favourite sniper, if it’s a grey then it’s not going be as effective as you might like, and it’ll be worth trading for a higher rank weapon.

The weapon ranks are as follows…

  • Grey - Common
  • Green - Uncommon
  • Blue - Rare
  • Purple - Epic
  • Orange - Legendary

Making your own path

One of the most unique and interesting aspects of Fortnite is the ability to crate structures and fortresses of a kind in the midst of battle. If you’re good, you can build some incredible defences and fortify yourself well against any enemy.

There are also situations where you can just create a path in the air, and run from building to building without touching the ground - or create stairs to mount buildings and tear them apart.

And tearing things apart will be necessary - many buildings, rooftops, structures and even trees and rocks in Fortnite can be broken down with your default pickaxe into collectible materials, just like in Minecraft, really. You can then use these materials to craft your walls, stairs and paths.

Make sure to stay stocked up on it all!

The laws of physics

Bullets don’t fly infinitely in real life, and in Fortnite you’ll have to be doing some on-the-fly calculations in order to connect your sniper shots with your enemies.

Bullet drop and distance from target are two of the most important factors when it comes to sniper rifles, and getting used to it will take hardcore time and practice.

Your accuracy is increased when crouched though, and a good general tip regardless of what weapon you’re using is to crouch and try not to move more than you have to during a firefight for the best accuracy, especially when you’re using assault rifles.

In general in a firefight you should put down some cover for yourself, aim carefully, but also check your horizons in all directions to ensure that no one is coming down on you.

The perfect cover construct

Four walls and a set of stairs. It sounds so simple, and it is, yet it’s the most valuable thing you will construct in Fortnite; guaranteed.

Seriously, place four walls around yourself and box yourself in. Now get ready with the stairs, and jump and place them beneath you. Just like that, you’ve got cover all around and a good vantage point to poke your head out and shoot enemies.

Once you’re used to the building mechanic, you can easily build on top of this structure and up to the sky with very little issue. The only limit is your imagination! Oh there also a hard limit to how high you can go. So I guess your imagination might be a bit much in this situation.
