Finger Hoola

In a world where games about burly men shooting other burly men are all the rage, titles like Finger Hoola are important. Even if its name sounds like an innuendo for something wholly inappropriate.

This is a game about bright colours and interesting sounds, designed to be simple enough that anyone with one working digit can play.

It might not be tremendously deep, and it might lack any serious replay value, but for the hour or so you're spinning your finger around the screen you'll be utterly engrossed.

The object of the game is so simple that the title more or less explains it in full. You need to hoola with your finger.

In the middle of the screen is a bar cut into different chunks. One of these chunks will have a musical note in it. You need to spin the ring at the right speed so that it sits in that section while a chord sounds. Do it for the right amount of time and you'll move onto the next note.

You only have a set amount of time to complete the bars that make up a level. Take too long and you won't receive the score you need to move on to the next level.

As the game goes on things get tougher. You'll have more than one ring to hoola, for example, and smaller chunks of the bar to spin it in. Things are never super-difficult, but there's enough challenge here to keep you occupied.

There's not a lot of content here, but what there is is well put together and finely polished. The simple gameplay lends itself to multiplayer, but alas no such mode is available at this stage.

With an excellent soundtrack, a unique look, and a really interesting central idea, Finger Hoola is well worth checking out. Its casual gameplay and hardcore difficulty curve make for entertaining bedfellows. It'll certainly leave you wanting more, and for a change that's no bad thing.
