Final Flight of the Perseus is a free Galaga-esque arcade shooter that keeps you on your toes

Final Flight of the Perseus is best compared to the arcade classic Galaga.

You guide your auto-firing ship around with a finger or thumb to shoot waves of hostile alien spaceships. Simple.

However, it has some additions to its wave-based arcade space shooter core that help define it as a markedly different experience.

Most notable is the upgrades system. After defeating each wave of enemies, you'll take the money you earned to an upgrade screen.

There are just three upgrades to pick from: Gun Speed, Gun Power, and Shields.

The two you'll want to invest your money in are the speed and power of your gun. Together, they make the increasingly tough waves easier to deal with.

But keeping up your shields will stop you from focusing on them.

If you get shot by or collide with an enemy, you'll lose one shield. Contrary to what you might think, the shields don't replenish at the start of every wave - you have to buy fresh ones at a higher cost each time.

This makes getting shot quite devastating. If you run out of shields and can't afford to buy another one, you'll die upon taking any damage. Game Over.

The shield system really emphasises the "Final Flight" theme present in the game's title.

The enemy behaviours and bullet-hell bosses will definitely keep you on your toes. And finding out what the next wave is going to be certainly keeps you wanting to get further.
