Final Fantasy VII is out on mobile, and it brings with it all the chaos and splendour of the original release.

Everything that you loved is here, every character, boss battle, and bizarre instance of cross-dressing.

But the mobile port isn't as sharp as we'd been hoping. The controls feel forced - Square Enix has decided to stick all the buttons of a PSOne controller on the screen rather than adapting for mobile play.

There are some other strange additions too. You can instantly buff your party up to level 99, and turn off the random battles that you'd normally use to grind your way to the top.

These new ideas take a bit of the shine off the production, but by no means tarnish it completely.

This is still Final Fantasy VII in all of its glory, and while it isn't the perfect version, it's still well worth a play.

Final Fantasy VII - A classic RPG, but not a classic port

It might not be the greatest port of Square Enix's masterpiece, but it's good enough to scratch your nostalgia behind the ears

Harry used to be really good at Snake on the Nokia 5110. Apparently though, digital snake wrangling isn't a proper job, so now he writes words about games instead.
