Ninja Theory is the developer behind the recent DmC: Devil May Cry console reboot and the really rather excellent Enslaved.

More importantly for fans of mobile gaming, though, Ninja Theory has just soft-launched its first iOS game, Fightback, in Canada.

That means it shouldn't be too long before the Cambridge-based studio's free-to-play side-scrolling brawler is available globally. That tallies quite nicely with the "summer" release date Ninja Theory gave when the game was first announced.

In Fightback, you play as a muscle-bound, vest-wearing action hero throwback who has to storm a series of towers in order to rescue his kidnapped sister.

Cue much punching, kicking, and shooting, as you use the intuitive swipe and tap controls to pummel your opponents to death in a variety of unspeakably violent ways.

Given this is a free-to-play game, there's a range of currencies up for grabs here. You can spend these 'coins' on powering up your muscular hero, or upgrading and reloading your ever-growing arsenal of high-powered firearms.

With Fightback's '80s action movie sensibility beautifully complemented by some clever, modern controls, Ninja Theory could have a pretty big hit on its hands.

You can get a better idea of how the game plays by checking out our E3 hands-on with the game.

We'll be sure to let you know when Fightback is heading to an App Store in your neck of the woods.
