Fairway to heaven?

Weird golf/card game mash-up sequel Fairway Solitaire Blast will land on iOS and Android on April 3rd

If you like nothing better than bizarrely mashed-together concoctions involving a ball-thwacking sport and a solo card game, then you're going to be delighted to read that Fairway Solitaire Blast will pitch up on the App Store and Google Play on April 3rd.

It's the long-awaited - by some anyway - sequel to Fairway Solitaire. So, everything is going to be faster, bigger, shinier, and explodier than ever before.

Or something like that.

The original game won a Silver Award way back at the start of 2012. We praised it for its "assured, inventive design".

So, it's fair to say that some of us here at Pocket Gamer's 19th hole clubhouse / casino are particularly excited about heading out onto this particular fairway again.

This time around, there's a bizarre story about disgruntled wild animals who've found their homes turned into a golf course.

Their only recourse? Use the power of solitaire golf to break said course and reclaim the greens.

You're still matching the card in your hand with others on the screen that are higher or lower. Now, however, there are explosive power-up cards that you can use to blow up any troublesome numbers you can't get rid of.

It makes for a pretty fast-paced entertaining little game that doesn't exactly tax your grey matter but offers enough compulsive tapping to keep you playing for a while.

Right now, Fairway Solitaire Blast is available in New Zealand, Canada, and Australia on the App Store in soft launch mode. It'll be going live worldwide, as a free-to-play title, on April 3rd.
