Epic Skater may fill the gap on mobile caused by brilliant Vita skateboarding game OlliOlli.

It's a free to play endless trick-pulling and rail grinding game. In other words, you skateboard as impressively as you can in order to get a higher score than your friends.

What gives Epic Skater some pedigree is it having been created by some ex-Neversoft people who worked on the likes of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 (THPS2).

While Epic Skater is a little more cartoon friendly than that classic game, it is similarly challenging and even sounds very close to the PlayStation game.

The main differences between Epic Skater and THPS2 is that it is sidescrolling (which, arguably, gives it better flow) and is designed for touchscreen.

So, yep, you tap to ollie, hold and let go for more air, and swipe to pull off tricks. Grinding is done automatically when done you ollie near a rail or edge.

Despite the simple controls, Epic Skater is as challenging as you'd hope it to be. As soon as you fall off your board the level comes to an end. So you need to take measurable risks when attempting a series of tricks to succeed.

As with THPS2, there are side-missions such as collecting coins to keep you occupied between high-score runs in Epic Skater, too.

I'd seriously consider checking out Epic Skater if you enjoy skateboarding games at all. You can download it for free on the App Store [download] and Google Play [download] right now.
