Having won Pocket Gamer's Big Indie Pitch on its home turf last November, Jordanian developer 3 Dot Games has just launched its winning work – quirky platformer Daft Jump. It’s enough to make you jump with joy.

Daft Jump is a frenetic side-scrolling platformer with a distinctly retro style. Jump over obstacles of the spiky and lasery kind as you run through each of its 8 levels. Throughout each stage, there are gold coins to collect and characters to unlock, as well as an in-game store to spend your well-earned coinage.

As with most platformers, it’s all about timing, and this goes double for Daft Jump. Once you’ve got to grips with controlling one hopping character, you’ve got to manage a second one, jumping in time to the music. As if that wasn’t difficult enough, you also have to worry about gravity flipping and levels scrolling in reverse. If that sounds too tricky, don’t worry – there’s an easy mode. At the end of each stage, you’ll be beamed up by a mysterious spaceship, controlled by a malevolent figure who you’ll have to deal with later.

Stylistically, Daft Jump is a little love-note to the ‘80s, with its original synth soundtrack, neon backdrop and simple, block characters (although it’s far beyond anything the Atari could’ve handled).

If you fancy trying your thumbs at this fast-paced, rhythm-based platformer, download Daft Jump from Google Play or the App Store for free.
