Last night Apple handed out its design awards at WWDC in San Francisco and a number of games were among the apps given glowy gongs for innovation and shininess.

Not that we like to blow our own trumpets but all 5 of the games in question received far more prestigious Pocket Gamer awards when we reviewed them.

There are 3 Gold Award-winners in the bunch. First up there's Simogo's atmospheric text adventure reinvention DEVICE 6.

Then there's super-addictive number sliding puzzler Threes, and awe-inspiring perspective-shifting platformer Monument Valley.

The lone Silver Award-winner in the pack is doodly line-creating puzzler Blek, with Bronze Award-winning squishy physics platformer Leo's Fortune rounding off the quintet.

All of the games that won awards do things differently, and it's great to see Apple rewarding developers who are brave enough to think outside the box.

Previous recipients of the awards include Ridiculous Fishing, Letterpress, and Badland. That's some pretty impressive company to keep.
