ZeptoLab has announced a sequel to Silver Award-winning physics-puzzler Cut the Rope.

It's the imaginatively titled Cut the Rope 2, and it's set to hit the App Store this holiday season. So, sometime at the end of the year, then.

The Russian developer is promising new characters, new twists on the classic candy-dropping gameplay, interactive backgrounds, and a captivating new story. I imagine that story will be a cross between Taken and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

"We remain dedicated to our mission: examining the science of fun. That means building experiences that players love," ZeptoLab CEO Misha Lyalin said in a press release.

"Cut the Rope 2 is a massive step forward for the game. Amazing graphics, gameplay, and characters drive a brand-new experience that fans are going to love."

Roped in

The original Cut the Rope, Cut the Rope: Experiments, and the chronology-hopping sequel Cut the Rope: Time Travel all received Silver Awards at review, so we've got high hopes for this sweet-munching fourth bite of the candy.

Cut the Rope has been downloaded more than 400 million times since it was released, and is still being downloaded five times a second. Which is quite frankly ridiculous.

We'll let you know when we hear any more information about Cut the Rope 2, but we'd suggest you expect lots of rope cutting and candy eating. Those are pretty much guaranteed.
