Crooked Path: Infinity Run review - It's a bit better than Crooked Path

I didn’t like the original Crooked Path. It was a bit too tough for its own good, and while there were some nice ideas they got squished by the frustratingly high challenge level.

So I approached this endless version of the game with some trepidation. The end result though is probably a more entertaining game.

The lack of a specific goal means your inevitable doom-wards plummets aren’t the end of the world, and the controls feel like they’ve been sharpened up a bit as well.

Path finder

The game has pretty much the same shape as its predecessor. You’re sprinting down a path full of turns, and you need to tap at the right time to change direction.

Get it wrong and you’ll plunge to your untimely death. And, er, that’s about it to be honest. Run, collect coins, fall off, rinse and repeat.

There’s a decent enough compulsion loop here, and while it’s probably not as compelling as some other one-touch arcade games, you’ll likely find yourself hooked for a while.

The controls are simple, the art style is pleasant enough, and a lot of the frustrations of the original have been ironed out.

Because you’re not chasing the end of a level, you feel like you’re making some sort of progress even when you mess up. And the unforgiving nature of the path feels less like an annoyance and more like something to master.

You’re unlikely so spend enough time with the game to actually master it, mind, but it does provide a welcome distraction for a few runs.

There are better endless runners on the App Store, and there are much better arcade games, but Crooked Path: Infinity Run is still just above average, which isn’t too shabby.

There’s no real fizz or pop here, and it’s definitely treading on old ground though. And it doesn’t quite manage to get its coin-spending right either, with too long between your first run and your first shiny new thing.

Better path

Still, it’s better than the first game, and it won’t make you want to hurl your phone or tablet out of the nearest window in sheer disgust.

I’m not entirely sure whether that counts as a recommendation or not though. But you will have some fun with the game, and that’s not to be sniffed at.

Crooked Path: Infinity Run is by no means perfect, and it’s by no means the complete package, but it’s not as broken as the original so it’s probably worth a bit of your time. Not much though.

It's better than the original, but there are still games more worthy of your attention out there
