Summoning monsters is one of the most important things you can do in Chaos Reborn, right up there alongside using spells.

And summoning those monsters is a surprisingly complicated experience - especially with Chaos mode's randomised element.

But here we'll focus on Law mode, and how you can summon monsters, or illusions, and how that's going to effect your playstyle.

It's free real estate

Forget mana costs, yo - Illusions are monsters with all the power of real ones, and none of expense. Beautiful.

Seriously, they have the destructive power, they have the health necessary - they really are intimidating, and you can happily bring and army of them thanks to how easy they are to summon.

Well, they're not perfect, but they are very, very good, especially if you're in a pinch. You can summon a mount and escape quickly, if need be, without mana cost or randomness.

Struck by disbelief

This is where things go wrong. The illusions are, well, just illusions after all, and in Chaos Reborn, illusions are only any good if the enemy believes.

You and your enemies alike will have a Disbelieve spell, which can be used on illusions and then - poof! - they're gone. It's an illusion insta-kill.

It can be used multiple times in a turn too, if you correctly guess and use it on illusions. This is the glaring flaw that makes illusions risky business.

Reality wins

And of course, that last tip is exactly why real monsters are so important. They won't be susceptible to a long-range insta-kill at all times.

Of course, now that you're armed with that knowledge, it's time to use the Disbelieve spell yourself. If you think the enemy's summons have been too good to be true, try it out.

And since Disbelieve is long range, you can feel free to use it if you're at a distance and can't use any other abilities at that moment. Worth a shot.

Don't be obvious

So you go straight into battle and summon a massive, high-cost monster straight away, before the point where you've collected any mana pick ups?

Yeah, that's a dead giveaway for a likely illusion. And that goes for the enemy too - if it's too good to be true, it might not be true at all.

To save small amounts of mana, you can summon weaker monsters as illusions, and save your mana for your tougher creatures.
