Caveman Wars is an interesting marriage of ideas. It's part-RTS, part-tower defence, part-deck builder. It's also a little slow to start. Once it finds its stride, though, there's a lot to like here.

The basic aim of the game is to defend your hut from encroaching cavemen determined to steal your breakfast, lunch, and tea. There are tigers and dinosaurs out to get you, too.

These villains pop up on the map. You need to pelt them with rocks and spells to kill them before they wander down their pre-assigned paths and break into your larder.

Your offensive equipment here is a deck of 50 cards, three of which you can have equipped at once.

These are delivered to you at random. And you can buy new boosters and collect cards dropped by vanquished foes to alter your deck.

The game is very much free-to-play. From the brief playthrough I've had with it, though, it doesn't appear to be to the detriment of the experience.

Plus, it means you can give it a go and see if it's any cop without risking any of your hard-earned pocket money.

Caveman Wars is out on the App Store [download] right now. And if you're looking for a game with a spark of originality at its core, it's probably worth a quick gander. It's out on Google Play [download] for the same price, too.
