At midnight tonight, Gameloft will let us experience an alternative history where World War II soldiers were expected to personally pay for individual grenades, medical kits, and gun upgrades.

I think that's what the studio is going for in Brothers in Arms 3: Sons of War - a fun cover-based shooter where almost every element of the game is linked to some tiresome monetisation system.

Seriously, you can for energy, you can pay for upgrades, you can pay for consumable gear, you can pay to expedite wait timers, and you can pay to not bleed. Let me repeat, you can pay real-world money to counteract haemorrhaging.

Still, this is a jolly fun nazi blaster while it lasts with good touchscreen controls, sharp visuals, and a massive wealth of content to work through. If you can stomach the payments, get it here when Bothers in Arms 3 hits the App Store this evening.

The game requires an iPad 2 or newer, an iPhone 4S or newer, or a fifth generation iPod touch. An Android edition will be with us soon.
