Brawl Stars is set to remove ads indefinitely

In a Reddit post earlier today, Supercell announced that it will be removing Reward Doublers from its soft-launched arena fighter Brawl Stars.

These ads were introduced around four months ago, and were used to boost the rewards you could receive from opening the game's various loot crates.

Over these last four months, Supercell has been testing whether the Reward Doublers had a place in Brawl Stars.

Ultimately, it came to the conclusion that, in its current state, the game's player progression and in-game economy were being complicated by these ads, and that massive alterations would have to be made to the game’s core design in order for this new monetization model to work.

However, rather than make those changes, the team's focus will now shift to adding exciting new content – hence the decision to just remove the ads entirely.

There's still free-to-play elements in there of course, it's just that the game will be IAP only from this point on. Unless ads come back in some way. Game development is hard, y'know?

If you weren't aware, Brawl Stars is a MOBA of sorts, where fighters duke it out in arena-based brawls. The game has seen much success since its soft-launch last year, and has amassed quite a sizeable community of players.

So, if you fancy yourself a dab hand at mobile MOBAs, then I'd recommend heading over to the App Store or Google Play where you can download Brawl Stars for free, provided you're in a country where it's been released.
