Block Fortress War is set to wage intergalactic carnage on iPhone and iPad on Thursday
War is right (angles)
Block Fortress War is an intriguing mash-up of ideas that you'll get to experience on the App Store this Thursday.
You see, it's a strategic action game with a juicy campaign that sees you invading and conquering in a right-angled galaxy.
There are five unique races in the game, and a set of heroes with various strengths and weaknesses. All of the races have their own equipment and blocks at their disposal.
You need to capture strategic points around the 3D maps, then build infrastructure around them. You might, for instance, add a gun emplacement, a farm, or a special block that boosts the power of your other structures.
The violence is quick and painful. Waves of enemies are spawned from the bad guy's base. Waves of grunts, meanwhile, are spawned from yours. You can equip your soldiers with different weapons, but it takes longer for them to appear.
As well as the single-player matches here, there are 1vs1 and 2vs2 competitive multiplayer scraps to sink your teeth into. All of these multiplayer matches are powered by Game Center.
And everything is presented in the big chunky cubes for which the Block Fortress series is renowned. It looks quite good, too, all straight-lined goblin bad guys and angular terrain.
Block Fortress War will surface on the App Store this Thursday, a.k.a. March 6th.
So, if you fancy whomping a gobbo with your army of cube-headed space chaps, you should keep an eye out for it later in the week.
