Best of British: Summer Sports should help extend the feel-good factor of London 2012 in the UK

It seems so long ago now that the Olympics and the Paralympics filled our nation's heart with joy, and hope, and sporting-ness.

If only there were someone out there willing to extend that feel-good factor by producing a smartphone game that invites gamers to channel the competitive yet fair spirit prevalent at London 2012 into sporting success.

Enter Best of British: Summer Sports, a WarioWare-style collection of mini-games made over a 48-hour period between June 20th and 22nd at the Best of British Game Jam.

Among the mini-games in this free compilation are archery (from the perspective of the arrow); angry Viking hurdles; sign tossing; possibly the greatest show jumping simulator the world has ever seen; tear wiping; and trampoline juggling.

With each game taking little more than a few seconds to complete, and almost all of them able to make you laugh, it should come as no surprise to find they were put together by some of the cream of the current crop of British indie developers.

"The first ever Best of British Hack was amazing fun and a major success. It's brilliant to see the Best of British: Summer Sports finally out in the wild and available for people to play," Mitch from onimobi, one of the developers involved in the Game Jam, said.

"I hope everyone enjoys playing it as much as we enjoyed making it!"

Moo Yu, creator of the PG Gold Award-winning Ring Fling and fellow Best of British: Summer Sports contributor, added: "I had an incredible time at the Best of British Hack. It's always great to get the opportunity to work alongside such talented and friendly people. There was a genuine sense of camaraderie in the air - joining forces to create something great."

If you tap on the 'more games' icon on the main menu, a load of links that take you to the various developers' sites and projects appear. We heartily recommend that you do just that.

So, if you want to wriggle your way out of the post-Olympic funk, you should head on over to the App Store and pick up one of the finest slices of Brit-eccentricity that the gaming world has ever seen.

If that doesn't sway you, perhaps this quote from Stephen Morris of Greenfly Studios will.

"Best of British is as described: a collection of talented British developers who have rallied together to showcase the best Britain has to offer. The Summer Sports game is a pure example of both British camaraderie and offbeat humour."
