Best new iOS and Android games of the week: August 13

Want to know what's fresh in the world of mobile gaming? Please, walk this way. May I take your coat?

Each week we like to run through the mobile games we've been enjoying the most over the past seven days.

This week we've got charm by the bucketloads, a genuine Clash Royale beater, a hypnotic shmup and more. It's been a good one.

Have you been playing anything different this past week? Let us know in the comments below.

Titanfall: Assault
By Nexon - buy on iOS / buy on Android

Sick of Clash Royale clones? Yeah, this isn't one of those. It's got far more scope for tactical expression across bigger, more intricate levels. You're still essentially attacking bases along limited lanes of approach, but in a much more interesting way.

Cat Quest
By The Gentlebros - buy on iOS

A beautifully put together action-RPG that takes its inspiration from Zelda, then throws in a basket-full of cat puns and mobile-friendly mechanics. This one had us purring.

Silly Walks
By Part Time Monkey - download on iOS

This adorable adventure game is built around a simple but fresh movement system, as you hop your jar of peanut butter (or doughnut, or ramen bowl) through a bunch of domestically themed levels.

Danmaku Unlimited 3
By Doragon Entertainment - buy on iOS / buy on Android

A third slice of neon-soaked bullet hell shmup action. Danmaku Unlimited 3 is a bit more abstract and zen-like than its rivals, encouraging you to dodge and weave rather than hammer the screen.

Standby
By HypeTrain Digital - buy on iOS

An unflinchingly cruel and breathtakingly fast platformer that makes every successful run feel like a perfectly timed combo in a classic beat-'em-up. You'll need patience and ninja reflexes for this one.

Jon Mundy
Jon Mundy
Jon is a consummate expert in adventure, action, and sports games. Which is just as well, as in real life he's timid, lazy, and unfit. It's amazing how these things even themselves out.
