We've all been inspired by kung fu films to perform acts of horrendous violence on our closest friends. It's a rite of passage that all youngsters go through - watch a Bruce Lee film, nearly blind your best friend by hitting him in the eye with a stick.

Actually, that might just be me.

Thankfully, Bam fu offers an alternative. Rather than whomping each other with logs or kicking each other in the shins, we can express our affinity with ancient Chinese martial arts by tapping on the screens of our iOS devices.

Flick, punch, block

The game is a multiplayer, same-screen reaction-tester for two to four players. Discs on the screen swap their colour when tapped, and it's up to you to change all the discs to your hue in order to score a point. First player to five points wins.

It's a simple enough premise, but one that inevitably leads to bouts of scratchy, finger-based violence. If any of your friends have long nails, do not under any circumstances play this game with them, unless you like bleeding.

There are different patterns of discs to play with, with sets for two-player, three-player, and four-player games. You can randomly generate layouts as well, meaning there's always a new combination of discs you haven't tapped yet.

There's not a great deal of depth to proceedings, but that's pretty much what you'd expect for a quick party-focused multiplayer blast. And it is fun in short bursts, although sometimes the balancing seems skewed in favour of one colour or another.

Finger of fate

Bam fu certainly isn't the best same-device multiplayer game available for your iOS device, but it has a certain competitive charm all the same. It's well designed and put-together too, with a cheeky sense of its own nonsensical nature running throughout.

It's unlikely you'll ever whip the game out regularly, but there's still a fun little game here that you'll enjoy the first couple of times you play it.

If you're looking for a little bit of filler in your games night, you could do a lot worse than picking this up. Just have some plasters handy.

Bam fu

A game that may well leave you with broken fingers and a smashed iPad, Bam fu is a lot of fun to begin with. Just don't expect to go back to it too often
