Nintendo’s president, Satoru Iwata, speaking to the New York Times, has dismissed Apple’s new tablet as a ‘bigger iPhone’.

He also went on to dismiss the rumours (again) of a motion sensing DS, saying, ‘I question whether those features would be enough to get people to buy new machines’. Bigger screens though, they’re the future.

Oh, hold on.

His comments come at a time when smartphones, and in particular the iPhone, are showing they can match their gaming cousins in big name titles and lead the way in online distribution.

Having said that, the DS and its various incarnations’ sales figures recently passed the 25 million mark, so I doubt Nintendo is particularly worried about the young whippersnapper phones and tablets just yet.
