Steve Jobs is up on stage right now, demonstrating the all new iPad just for Tracy (who's live blogging right now), and he's revealed the specifications for the big Apple iPhone.

First and foremost we're looking at a 9.7 inch IPS display, with full capacitance multi-touch (the same kind of touchscreen as the iPhone and iPod touch).

It weighs 1.5lbs (680 grams), so it's beautifully light, and Steve tells us it's just over half an inch thick (13.4mm). Powering this little beast is what Steve called a "1GHz Apple A4" chip, and that handles all the graphics and processing the devices needs.

We'd hazard a guess that this is a PowerVR SGX Series5 range, since Apple now owns 10 per cent of Imagination Technologies. It'll come in three flavours of storage - 16GB, 32GB and 64GB, and will feature Bluetooth 2.1 (plus EDR), wi-fi 802.11n for connectivity and 3G.

There'll also be the proprietary Apple 30-pin connector, and a speaker and microphone, so as long as it's got a VoIP app, it'll double nicely as an iPhone.

10 hours of battery life is pretty impressive, as is a month on standby - mega! An accelerometer and digital compass will take care of auto-orientation, and presumably come into play for games, too.

Finally it's quite an eco-friendly device, being arsenic, mercury, BFR and PVC free.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
