It's arrived: Pocket Gamer unboxes 'the new iPad'
|

Apple's third-generation iPad is out today.

As expected, large quantities of Cupertino fanboys queued outside Apple's infamous retail stores and a whole host of other electronic outlets to get their hands on the new tablet as soon as possible.

Pocket Gamer, on the other hand, decided to grab a beer, jump in front of the computer, fire up Apple's website, and wait in the warmth for the postman to deliver our new iPad straight to our large office doors.

We've just waved the good postman goodbye, so let's get straight to the unboxing.

The unboxing

Moving swiftly on, then.

Now, we're getting somewhere. As you can see, we ordered the new iPad in white. We only need 16GB, so that's the model we chose. And we can connect to the internet while we're on the move by tethering our iPhone to our new tablet, so we just grabbed the wi-fi-only model of the new iPad.

And there she is. Isn't she a beauty?

Let's just dive straight in, eh. If you've ever laid eyes on an iPad before, you'll probably be familiar with most of the above.

The first image shows the iPad's volume rocker, orientation lock, power button, and all-new 5-megapixel rear camera, which is capable of shooting 1080p video at 30 frames per second.

The second photograph shows Apple's standard 3.5mm headphone jack, which is situated at the top of the device. Lastly, you can see a speaker and a 30-pin connector - both of which reside at the bottom of the tablet.

Flip the new iPad over and you'll see your familiar Home button (it's still there, people!) and a VGA-quality FaceTime camera.

Let's forget about the thing you're actually all here to see for a second, and have a look at what else comes in Apple's iPad box. Exciting, we know.

There's an "Important Product Information" guide, a small card that tells you what each of the tablet's buttons does, and a USB cable and wall charger. You'll be needing those tonight.

Oh, and there are a couple of those stickers you seem to get with every Apple purchase. Don't ask: we still don't know.

We didn't have an iPad 2 to hand during the unboxing, so we've compared the new iPad to Apple's original (2010) slate. The latest model may have put on a few pounds since the iPad 2 launched, but nobody's perfect.
