These are the 21 Apple TV games we know about so far

The next version of the Apple TV will play games. It probably won't dethrone your PS4 anytime soon, but it will have a library of apps quite unlike anything you'll find on the big boy consoles.

Here's everything that we know is coming to the Apple TV's new App Store, so far.

Adventure Galaxy on Fire 3 - Manticore Rising - Fishlabs

A big, bold space adventure game that will act as a prequel to the upcoming iOS game, Galaxy on Fire 3 - Manticore, which is out in 2016. The gorgeous-looking Rising will launch as soon as the Apple TV goes on sale.

Skylanders SuperChargers - Activision

You should know how Skylanders works by now: place expensive plastic toys on an expensive plastic portal and see the characters appear in game. This one has expensive plastic vehicles too, and will work with your Apple TV.

Transistor - Supergiant Games

It's already out on iOS, but this stylish game will appear on your Apple TV, too. It's all about a singer named Red who has lost her voice. Don't worry -and talking sword will do all the yapping for you as you demolish enemies in tactical battles.

Rhythm Guitar Hero Live - Activision

Be a musician. Play along to famous tunes. Throw your TV out the hotel window and overdose on drugs. You can do just some of that in this new edition of Guitar Hero which swaps the goofy CGI rockstars with full-motion video of goofy human rockstars. Just remember to buy a Bluetooth guitar controller, first.

Beat Sports - Harmonix

Harmonix is best known for games like Rock Band and Amplitude. But for its Apple TV debut we're getting a cutesy Wii Sports-style game about playing baseball and the like to the beat of a soundtrack. You'll swing the motion-sensitive remote to play.

Strategy Armada of the Undead - Legendo

An upcoming turn-based strategy game for up to four players. Don't worry: you won't need to splash out on controllers or remotes - players can use their iOS device to issue commands to their fleet of zombie pirates.

Platformer Dracula Twins - Legendo

It's a platformer inspired by Ghosts 'n' Goblins. I wonder if you'll have to play in your boxer shorts if you get too many times? The game is already available on iOS, but this tvOS version will get co-op support so vampiric siblings Drac and Dragana can fight zombies together.

Rayman Adventures - Ubsioft

Adventures is like Fiesta and Jungle Run, except that it's not. It's got the same gorgeous UbiArt visuals, auto-run gameplay, and bitesize level structure. But now you can give your heroes a direction so you explore the level at your leisure. Fresh free to play shenanigans, however, are less welcome.

Shooter Afterpulse - Gamevil

A new PvP shooter from the dudes and dudettes behind the underrated Respawnables. The goofy cartoon graphics have been ditched in favour of gritty military gumpf, but hopefully the firefights are just as feisty. It's in soft launch now, and coming to Apple TV.

Crimsonland - 10tons

A gory twin-stick shooter from 10tons about turning your foes into puddles of blood and teeth. It's about as deep as an Adam Sandler movie, but Crimsonland will make you want to murder everyone on screen in the most violent way possible. Like an Adam Sandler movie.

Plastic Fantastic Squad - Studio Pound Sand

A third-person shooter from a chap who used to head up the Medal of Honor games. But don't expect a realistic treatise on the horrors of war - this is a game about being a plastic action figure. Looks fun, and ultra 80s.

Arcade Pure Pinball - Legendo

This is pinball. Just pinball. You could almost say it's pure pinball. Flap the flappers. Hit the ball. Score the points. I don't know what else there is to say. Pinball is boring without Pokemon. There. I said it. You made me say it and I said it.

Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved - Lucid

A trippy, psychedelic shmup which has you arcing around space sausages, spilling neon-tipped bullets at kamikaze diamonds and pinwheels and triangles. It's like doing PCP and then watching a Sesame Street episode about shapes. And about as much fun.

Crossy Road - Hipster Whale

Everyone knows Crossy Road. Hop across an infinite stretch of highways and railways, dodging cars and trains, as you try and stay alive for as long as possible. The inevitable Apple TV version adds cooperative play so emo goose and festive chicken can work together.

Racing GT Spirt - Eden Games

This one's exciting, as it comes from the crew behind Test Drive Unlimited. I wouldn't expect a huge open world like that game, but do look forward to realistic vehicles and zillions of events to take part in. GT Spirit will be Apple TV exclusive at launch, with iOS and Android follow-ups planned.

Proun+ - Engine Games

Is Proun a racer? Well, you certainly shoot forward at high speeds and try to dodge obstacles. But this one is more abstract and artful than your typical Need for Turismo: Gas Farter. And has a better, jazz-fuelled soundtrack.

Puzzle Shadowmatic - Triada Studios

You start each level in Shadowmatic with a lumpy blob of clay. And then you spin it around and notice - gasp! - it's casting a shadow of a cute bunny rabbit on the back wall. It's stylish and Apple loves it. We think you will too, especially on your telly.

King Oddball - 10tons

A kooky game about smashing the heck out of buildings with a giant tongue. It's fine, and we said "while it might not be the most innovative or original game in the world, King Oddball is still an awful lot of fun" in our review of the iOS version.

Tennis in the Face - 10tons

But if you get just one 10tons game, make it this. It's about thwacking tennis balls at just the right angle to headshot a bunch of dumb clowns. Just like Andy Murray does at the weekends. It's silly, but works really well.

Sparkle 2 and Sparkle Unleashed - 10tons

A pair of Zuma-inspired ball shooters from 10tons. There are worse ways to lose an entire day of your life to an addictive puzzle game, I suppose.
