Beta testers for the upcoming iOS 8.3 have noticed a new setting in the restrictions panel, that will let you download free apps on iPhone and iPad without having to type in your password all the time.

You'll find it on the same screen as the option to require your password for every transaction - or to enter a 15 minute window where you don't need a password and then your kid can rack up thousands of pounds worth of in-app purchases.

Right now on the beta release the option to require a password on free apps is greyed out, limited to some App Stores, and only appears if Touch ID is disabled. But it exists.

Now don't get your hopes up too much. For one, features seen in beta builds of iOS are not guaranteed to be there in the final version. Plus, a similar 'no passwords' idea was trialled in a beta for iOS 6, before disappearing in the public rollout.
