Qubic Games has told us that Bronze Award-winning 3DS time-trial racer AiRace Speed is coming to iOS very soon, under the new name Air Race Speed.

The iOS version will contain all of the levels in the 3DS version as well as extra levels from AiRace Xeno.

We were able to go hands-on with Speed on iOS and can confirm that, as Qubic says, it runs very smoothly.

AiRace Speed may look like WipEout and F-Zero but it plays more like, say, Boson X.

There are no other racers and you don't race around circuits, you see. Instead, you attempt to get from A to B, swooping and dodging in order to get the quickest time you can.

Game Center leaderboards will mean you'll be able to challenge friends to beat your best times, and vice versa.

Qubic Games was not able to confirm a release date for Air Race Speed but it should in the next month or so. An Android version will arrive eventually.

It will be sold as a premium title.
