The Independent Games Festival has unveiled its list of finalists for this year's indie awards.

The IGF is, in its own words, intended to "encourage innovation in game development and to recognise the best independent game developers."

These exalted games are primarily available on PC. But, as ever, a few tenacious little mobile games have made their way in, too.

There's Simogo's evocative vision quest adventure game Year Walk, which is down for Excellent In Visual Art. LiquidSkitch, a puzzle game for iPad that simulates all sorts of liquids, is a finalist in Technical Excellence.

The worrisomely addictive Super Hexagon is a finalist in Excellence in Design, and musical tower defence game Bad Hotel is up for Excellence in Audio.

Hundreds, Spaceteam, Skulls of the Shogun, and Helix are honourable mentions in various awards.

This year, the IGF has given up the bespoke "Best Mobile Game" category. The previous winners were Beat Sneak Bandit and Helsing's Fire.

IGF chairman Brandon Boyer said, "We no longer feel like the question needs to be raised whether a game is great, or great 'as a mobile game': each game will now compete on equal footing."

Anyhoo. The Independent Games Festival will now call upon its cabal of judges to pick the top games in each category. Winners will be announced on March 27th, at GDC in San Francisco.

Past IGF winners of note include Minecraft, Machinarium, Osmos, and World of Goo.
