Inspired by Spelunky and Secret of Mana, Wayward Souls is a procedurally generated action-RPG from Hook Champ and Punch Quest developer RocketCat Games. And it'll be out on iOS at midnight tonight.

In Wayward Souls, you pick one of six different characters and then set off into a random world to beat up enemies, find treasure, and unlock new gear for the next time you attempt to clear the dungeon.

The game boasts delicious 16-bit sprites from the SNES era, albeit with lighting, physics, and crazy particle effects that could only be done today. All in all, it's quite a looker.

Wayward Souls

RocketCat has made two promises about this game: it will never feature in-app purchases (not even for the hats), and the introductory sale price of £2.99 / $4.99 will go up by a dollar every time a big content update goes live.

The developer says you can leave feedback on Twitter or Facebook with ideas for what the studio should include in the next update. The first content pack will contain a huge new area for the game.

We will have a full review of Wayward Souls up on the site soon. Until then, you can check out the game's introductory section in the PG First Play video above.
