I'm sorry to disappoint you Sonic fans, but Sonic Runners isn't the game you want on your mobile telephone or tablet computer.

This auto-runner has loads of unnecessary (and very weak) story elements, occasionally fumbles an attempt at comedy, requires an Internet connection to play, and has a load of free-to-play mechanics chucked in too.

The worst thing about all this is that the core gameplay is quite fun: it's fast and frantic and looks just lovely, but the game's achingly long load times and constant gameplay interruptions make Sonic Runners a slog to get to the good bits.

Sonic Runners is in soft-launch in Canada and Japan, it should be out worldwide shortly.
