Horde of Heroes is a new match-three puzzling RPG that sees you swapping coloured blobs on a grid to smash monsters into bits.

Each encounter gives you experience, and when you've amassed enough you can toughen up your chosen hero by chucking points into a variety of different skill slots.

Everything is presented in delightfully thick pixels and there's a huge amount of loot to whomp out of the monsters you face.

As well as changing your stats, new equipment lets you customise the look of your character.

The puzzling is smooth and easy, and chaining together huge combos of sword swipes, magical blasts, and healing hearts is a real pleasure.

The game is free-to-play, but in the time I spent with it the system wasn't too overpowering.

You've got a chunk of lives, and when you've used them up you can wait for them to regenerate or buy some more with gems.

There's a social focus too, with vaguely annoying Facebook connections, and the ability to ask for help from your friends too.

Horde of Heroes is out right now on the App Store and it won't cost you a thing to give it a go. And I reckon it might be worth a try.
