The Final Fantasy XI mobile remake is still happening, apparently
We even have new screenshots
It’s been about two good years since we’ve heard anything about the upcoming Final Fantasy XI mobile remake, but apparently there’s still life in the project, as job listings for the game feature new screenshots of the game.
Redditors tracked down recent job posting for Nexon’s Final Fantasy XI project on the company’s careers site. While the job listings were posted in January 2018, folks on Reddit quickly noticed that the images on the page were actually added in at the end of April. All signs point to this project still being very much alive.
We still don’t know a whole lot about what this reboot will entail. We learned way back in 2015 that Final Fantasy XI for mobile will be running on Unreal Engine 4, and includes UI improvements and other enhanced features.
Final Fantasy XI has been quietly chugging along since 2002, and it’s one of the few classic MMORPGs that’s held onto its subscription model. The game is well known for its daunting difficulty, but it has maintained a tight knit community, possibly as a result of the game’s tough nature.
Nexon could be a good match for the game, as they have a pedigree of fine mobile games including Dynasty Warriors: Unleashed and Battlejack. Here’s hoping Nexon’s recruitment efforts are a sign of more things to come for Final Fantasy XI mobile.
